Boil the grape juice in a large saucepan until reduced by about half
Add the pears, persimmons, cinnamon & cloves
Simmer gently, covered for most of the time, for at least 1 hour (break the fruit into little pieces when it is soft), until the fruit falls apart and the liquid has the consistency of syrup
If you like, add walnuts (but make sure they are not stale), or other nuts like hazelnuts or almonds
