With members hailing from Chicago, Oakland, Berkeley, Leeds, and the mean streets of Orinda, Cut Loose has music in their blood. East Bay local for 20+ years, they have a huge repertoire of rock ‘n roll, R&B, and rockin’ blues tunes and wireless instruments with which to administer them, joyfully and mercilessly, throughout a dancing crowd.
With their talent and personality that is Hillary Lee’s dynamite vocals, searing guitar leads from British bluesman, Steve McConnell, and a solid, groovin’ rhythm section that is Jack Collins, Dan Beck, and Rand Stadtman, they not only impress but solidly entertaining.
The “Loose” in Cut Loose comes from the band’s original name but also refers to the band’s versatility. They easily move from Etta James to Ann Wilson (Heart), Johnny Guitar Watson to The Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters to AC/DC, Carrie Underwood to Aretha Franklin via a tight group of five musicians who have not only been playing together for lo, these many years, but still consistently rehearse weekly, despite their busy performance schedule.
Today you’ll find Cut Loose playing clubs, fairs, festivals, restaurants and parties throughout the extended Bay Area. They have opened for/played with the likes of Ana Popovic, Chris Cain, and Carlos Reyes, to name a few. The band changed their name from Loose Blues to Cut Loose in late 2015 to reflect their incredible versatility. Their third CD, “Put Away Wet,” is now available.
